What are tear trough hollows?
Tear troughs are depressions that run down from the inner eye corner to the upper cheek. This hollowness causes unflattering dark shadows underneath the eyes and makes you look tired despite a refreshing night’s sleep.
What causes tear troughs?
As we age our skin produces less collagen and elastin and this results in the thining of the skin. The skin also produces less hyaluronic acid as we become older which gives rise to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Another factor that plays a role in the formation of tear trough hollows is loss of fat volume. Underneath the lower eyelid there is a collection of fat compartments that normally raise the skin overlying the area but through the ageing process these compartments lose their volume leaving the area appear sunken.
How do you treat tear troughs?
At restora, we use Hyaluronic Acid fillers to treat tear trough hollows. Using a blunt tip microcannula, the filler is injected carefully over the orbital bone to restore the volume lost during the ageing process which will immediately rejuvenate the face.
